Second Scrubs Wikipedia Edit

In seeing that the semester is quickly coming to a close I thought it wise to make another Wikipedia edit in seeing I have not done so in a while. So, today I made my second edit to the Scrubs page. In this edit, I added to the trivia section where I wrote about how the producer of the show, Bill Lawrence, may eventually place a name to one of the leading characters, The Janitor, in the series finale. To date, that is how he is known on the show yet has used the name Dr. Jan Itor on occassion.

HostMySite.com

Today in class, we listened to the CEO of HostMySite.com, Lou Honick. HostMySite is a web hosting service provider for personal or business web hosting. The company prides itself on its customer service which is open 24 x 7 x 365. I found today's presentation very interesting in seeing how the company grew from just two people to around 170 employees. The fact that the company was able to get off the ground as basically a part time service is fascinating as well.

It is always pretty cool listening about a success story and what makes it even better is that the founder graduated from the University of Delaware. I always enjoy listening to guest speakers and hope to hear more in class.

DealCatcher

In class today we listened to Dan Baxter, the founder of DealCatcher. DealCatcher is an online community that helps shoppers save money and make educated purchases. On the site you can find online coupons, products, sales, reviews, and rebates.

I found the presentation to be extremely interesting. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to how the site was founded and how it was able to take off. I thought the presentation related to class quite well by touching on class topics such as price discrimination and word of mouth marketing. I especially enjoyed the customer complaint call, I found that particularly amusing. The free t-shirt was also a nice gift.

Eagles Wikipedia Edit

Today I made my first edit to the Philadelphia Eagles Wikipedia page. Reading through the Eagles page I noticed some grammatical errors so I decided to fix them. I know it's small but it still counts as adding content. In the future, I hope to add more substance to the page but for now I guess this will have to do.

Stiuqxela Experiment

I have just realized that my page comes up on Google (thanks in part to Professor Brown telling me in class) when you type in the search word stiuqxela. In seeing that it now does I should explain what the term means. Stiuqxela, is a made up word that links to the Green Bay Packers website. For class experimental purposes we are blogging the word and watching how the different search engines, especially Google, react.

Open Source

Today in class we talked about open source software and how it is essentially free software. I found today's topic interesting because it shows how anybody can download the software and make changes to it. I did not realize that it was so prevalent in today's world. For example, I was unaware that Firefox is open source, and I found that to be very interesting because I am a user of Firefox. Hopefully, that doesn't mean I am a 'free rider' because I do not make any modifications.

Also, I did enjoy the reference to The Office today in class because I am a big fan of the show.
